The N55 inline-turbo-6 engine will be replaced by a totally new design N58 (some other sources claim BMW will change to use letter “B” as prefix of engine model, so N58 may be called B58) twin turbo six. Engine displacement is the same (3 liters), maximum design output will be in the range of 370-400hp, typical output will be around 330 – 360hp.

The twin turbo will be composed of one twin scroll turbo (act as the low pressure turbo), plus another single traditional turbo, arranged in a sequential order.

The N58/B58 engine will be in the market as soon as 2016, but it may be delayed until as late as 2018.

N63 V8 will get some small upgrades b...

Previously we provided some speculations about the BMW M2 here.

Today we have some updates on this model. The M2 will probably keep using the N55 turbo engine (N55B30T0). This engine will be also shared on the upcoming X4 M40i.

M3 MSRP starts at $62,000; M4 starts at $64,200 (does not include S&H of $925).

Metallic paint costs an extra of $550;

Double clutch automatic transmission: $2,900;

Carbon-ceramic brakes: $8,150;

Adaptive suspension: $1,000;

Base interior is leather plus cloth materials; exteneded use of leather costs $950, and full leather coverage costs $3,500.

Driver assistance package: $1,900 (includes blind spot warning, active driving assistant system);

Executive package ($4,300 for M3, $4,000 for M4): heated steering wheel, key-less entry, rear-view camera, PDC, HUD etc.

Lighting package ($1,900): LED lights, automatic high beams;

With more collaborations between BMW and Toyota, we will find more of the Japanese company’s product in the German brand (Aisin is owned by its parent company Toyota).

According to BMW, their future FWD platform sedans’ transmission will be supplied by Aisin (the current BMW RWD cars’ transmission are majorly sourced from ZF).

The new Aisin transmission is improved for the damping capability of the torque converter, which is suitable for turbo engine. The turbo engine’s low end torque results the engine run at low RPM range more time. While this helps to optimize fuel consumption, it also significantly increases the level of torque fluctuations...

Bimmerpost forum member “Sir Loin” took some close look photos of the 2015 M3/M4 in the 2014 Vancouver Auto Show, the following pictures are from his original message in bimmerpost.com forum.

From one of the detailed photos I find there looks like to be a build quality issue around the side rear view mirror area: the gaps between the window trim moulding and the A pillar metal is not uniform. We hope the final production vehicles can address this issue:
