Two weeks ago we heard some updates from our source that the upcoming 2016 M2 will be equipped with a completely new designed S57 engine and it produces around 400hp.

Now it looks like the information is not 100% correct: there is a NEWER update that indicates the M2 will still keep the N55 engine, but it will probably be upgraded with 2 turbochargers (instead one on the standard N55 engine), and the final output will be around 380hp. Below is a rendering of the 2016 BMW M2.

In fact, it doesn’t matter whether the engine is called the S57 or N55, the most important thing is that: it WILL be twin-turbocharged...

2016 BMW M2: Latest Information

– Engine: S57 B30 (M-car version in the B57/58 engine family), twin-turbocharger (not the single turbocharger in the N55 engine)
– Up to 400hp
– 6-speed manual transmission as standard; 7-speed DCT optional
– Rear-wheel-drive; but AWD may be possible in the future

Today some new information related to the upcoming M-version of the 2-series (model code: F87) surfaced on the internet. Below are consolidated highlights:

– N55 I6 turbocharged engine, tuned to 374 hp and 384 lb-ft of torque;
– 0-62mph (0-0100kmh) time: 4.3 seconds
– 6-speed manual transmission only
– To be revealed in early 2015 as a 2016 model

Today we have the latest news regarding the upcoming 2016 BMW M2: start of production will begin in November 2015 for European market, and March 2016 for US market.

There is no more updates for the M2 specifications, and we are sure it will use the N55B30T0 engine. Information in our previous M2 report is still valid at this point.

We get the latest news for the BMW F3x models. Starting from the 2016 model year, the current N20 4-cylinder turbo engine will be replaced by the newly designed B48 engine; and the award-wining N55 turbo-6, will be upgraded to the B58 engine.

Therefore, the current N20-equipped models (328i/428i) will be renamed 330i and 430i. The N55-equipped cars (335i/435i) will be designated as 340i/440i.

This is not just a name change, according to our insider source, those two engines will be at least 10% more powerful than their predecessors. More specifically, the 330i/430i will be around 270ps; the 340i/440i will be approx. 330-340ps (depends on options chosen).
