The 2015 Detroit auto show to be held in next month is going to be a historical event for the automobile history. Several cars to be debuted there will definitely be proven to be legends in the automobile history. To name a few: the long-waited second generation NSX; the successor of the glory Ford GT; the first Lexus high-performance mid-size sedan, M5/E63AMG fighter: GS-F.
Below is a brief preview of what we’ll see in two weeks.
2016 Acura NSX
25 years earlier when Acura debuted its first generation NSX, it was a milestone in the automobile industry. The 1st-gen NSX has many new stuffs and technologies that people had never seen before at that time. For example the full aluminum car body with an aluminum alloy frame, full aluminum suspension, titanium connecting rods in the engine and the electric power steering system etc. Its technology level is way more ahead within the industry, even more advanced than most exotic sports cars at that time, such as the Ferrari 348.
Now 25 years passed, Acura has discontinued the 1st-gen NSX for 10 years. For the past 10 year, Honda/Acura give people an impression that it is focusing only on “normal daily-driving” cars, which are all front-wheel-drive based, and is a typical choice for daily commute and weekend grocery shopping. But in fact, it does not mean Honda is losing its racing and technology roots. Honda has been secretly developing the 2nd-gen NSX several years ago, and many leaked information makes me believe it will be another ground-breaking product in Honda/Acura’s history.
2016 Cadillac CTS-V
You want a super fast, 600hp+ luxury sedan which can sit 5 adults comfortably, and don’t have a 6-figure budget? The 2016 Cadillac CTS-V is the right choice for you. See more details about this 640hp monster in our previous article.
Ford GT Successor
The “previous” Ford GT has only lived for two model years: 2005 and 2006, with a total of 4,038 units been built. It is considered by the public to be the first massively-build production super car by Ford. It has the all the performance that an exotic sports car requires, but does not carry a price tag as high as other super cars (its starting MSRP was $139,995 back in late 2004).
Most notable selling points of the Ford GT are mainly in some unique features such as: a superplastic-formed frame with aluminum body panels and friction stir welded center tunnel, roll-bonded floor panels and a specially designed plastic gas tank sourced from TI Automotive. Also do not forget the optional McIntosh sound system – if you are an audiophile you probably have already heard the name “McIntosh”. They just build a very limited amount of car audio products and they are quite sought-after.
Ford is said to anounce a successor model of the GT, which should come with some exciting stuff at the 2015 Detroit auto show.
New generation of Ford: SVT Raptor Truck
If you want to buy a Raptor, just hold on for a couple more months. Because Ford is releasing the new generation SVT Raptor two weeks later. The new Raptor will have the same aluminum body like the standard new F150s and weight much lighter than the current one. Better performance, better morden looks, it definitely worth the wait.
Ford Shelby GT350R Mustang (higher performance version of the GT350 Mustang)
We have already covered a lot of details and insider news of the 2016 Ford Shelby GT350 Mustang here and here. It looks like Ford wants to go a step further based on the GT350, and unveil an even hotter version: the GT350R. This is something equivalent to the previous Mustang Boss 302 Laguna Seca package.
Ford Focus RS AWD
The upcoming Ford Focus RS sits higher than the current Focus ST. Rumor said this high performance Focus variant may crank out 350hp from the turbocharged 4-cylinder engine. Previously, Ford never sold the Focus RS in the US market, now the good news is that the new Focus RS will be offered here, finally.
2016 Lexus GS-F
Exactly 8 years earlier – in the 2007 Detroit auto show, Lexus announced its first F-model product: the 2008 Lexus IS-F. For 7 years, the IS-F is the only model in Lexus’s F product line. Considering its German competitors, BMW has 1M, M3/5/6, X5M, X6M; Mercedes-Benz has all kinds of AMG models (it AMG’d almost all its models), Lexus’s F product line was quite embarrassing. So this year (2014) comes the 467hp RC-F. Lexus knows 3 is better than 2, so it will add another new F model on top of the IS-F and RC-F, which is the GS-F, a BMW M5/Mercedes-Benz E63AMG/Audi RS6 fighter. This is also the first time that Lexus has competed in the high-performance mid-size luxury sedan market. News said Lexus will up the 5.0L V8’s ouput to 500hp on the GS-F. We will see the exact number shortly.
Redesigned Lexus RX (?)
Note: the above image is the current RX.
Lexus said it will also debut one more new model in the 2015 Detroit auto show. Our guess is the re-designed 4th generation RX. However, we could be wrong. Anyway, we must admit that Lexus did do a good job of hiding any new model development’s hints from the public.
2016 Mercedes-Benz GLE450 AMG
We have reported the new GLE class two weeks ago with plenty of information. Now you can see it in person in Detroit.
2016 Mercedes-Benz C450 AMG
The 2016 Mercedes-Benz C450 AMG is slotted above the C400 sedan, and it is expected to have the same powertrain as the GLE450 AMG.
2015 Mini Hardtop John Cooper Works
Although MINI had somewhat of a disappointing US sales number in 2014, to the extent that upper management even planned to kill some of its unpopular models, this does not stop them to develop and make enhancements to new performance models.
This time it will release the JCW version of the MINI Cooper Hardtop, with 228 hp and 236 lb-ft of torque from the 2.0L turbocharged engine. This is the most powerful car in the whole MINI’s history.
We hope you’re prepared to see some awesome up and coming models at the Detroit auto show. Stay tuned.
