Today Audi announced that it is going to phase out its continuously variable transmission (CVT), which can be seen some of Audi’s front-wheel-drive model trims, such as the current A4 FWD.
For current Audi models that aure using the CVT, the transmission will be offered until the end of life span of each current model generations. For the next generation designs of each model, the CVT will be replaced by the brand’s new designed 7-speed dual-clutch transmission (DSG), which is similar to the one you can find on some of Audi’s current performance cars sold in the US market (such as the 2014 Audi S7), and most models sold in the European market – obviously, VW Group not always bring its best stuffs to US side, in a timely manner.
Below is an illustration shows the mechanical structure of the Audi Multitronic CVT.
