Two days ago we have reported the news that the next Civic will use an all-new 1.5L turbocharged engine developed in-house by Honda. However, guess who will be the first one to use this new engine? To your surprise, it is not a sport oriented model; instead it will be a minivan: the 2016 Honda Stepwgn, a mid-size MPV currently sold in Asia markets only.

Turbocharging has been a common practice within many European auto makers. However this is not the case for Japanese companies. For example Toyota, currently it only has one model that is equipped with a turbocharged engine (the Lexus NX200t). Talking about Honda, it is better, since both of the new Acura NSX and Civic Type R are turbocharged.

This trend will finally come to Honda’s hot seller model: the Civic. From an interview with Automotive News, Yoshiharu Yamamoto, Honda’s head of global R&D department, has confirmed the below message:

The current Honda CR-Z is a very unique hybrid car in the market: it is the only hybrid car that offers manual transmission in the market. However, sales of the CR-Z is plagued by its weak power output, which has only 130HP from a tiny 1.5L engine plus the electric motor.

But please be rest assured that Honda is going to address this issue in the next generation CR-Z, which is due in 2017. The current CR-Z is based on the Honda Fit platform, however the new CR-Z will be riding on the Civic platform several years later. Some of you may wonder why we are talking about Honda Accord and Koenigsegg Regera at the same time. At first glance, these two cars are totally unrelated: the Honda Accord Hybrid has only 196HP combined system power, while the Koenigsegg Regera has 1,500HP. The Accord Hybrid starts from $29,305, while the Koenigsegg Regera carries a price tag of $1,890,000 (close to 1.9 million).

In fact, despite the huge difference in power output and price, these two cars have one common feature: they are the only two production cars that connects an internal combustion engine (ICE) directly to the driving wheels...

Currently the Acura brand only exists in North America, China and Russia. Therefore outside of those markets, the Acura NSX will be re-branded as the Honda NSX. However, the manufacturing and assembling of all Acura/Honda NSX will be in Acura’s Performance Manufacturing Center in Marysville, Ohio.

In the 2015 Geneva auto show last week, we saw the NSX labeled with the Honda badge. Although Honda does not provide us the access to the interior cabin, we still get enough detailed photos of this magnificent sports car. Please enjoy the following gallery.
