2014 March sales statistics of the Chinese auto market come out today.

During the last month, total auto sales in China region is 1 ,094,472 units. One surprising fact is for March 2014, the Audi A6 outsold the Toyota Camry (15,800 units vs. 15,723 units). Compared to the best selling mid-size luxury sedan in US market, the Mercedes-Benz E class only sold 6,335 units.

In the same period, BMW sold 12,279 units of the 5 series in China; and Mercedes-Benz sold 3,360 units of the E class.

The 2015 X6 is a newly designed ride on the same platform of the new X5. It will debut in this August’s Moscow Auto Show. The M version (X6M) will be in this November’s Los Angeles Auto Show.

Here are new information:

– length increased by 1.3 inches, compared to the old X6;

– approx. 330lbs lighter;

– three engine options: 258hp 3.0L turbo inline-six; 381hp 3.0L tri-turbo inline-six; 4.4L turbo V8 with around 450hp. M versioin engine spec is unknown at this moment;

– made in US Spartanburg plant;

– Along with the X6 news, Mercedes-Benz said today they will have a new SUV: MLC class as the answer to BMW’s new X6.

Starting July next year (2015), BMW will put the new designed 4 cylinder turbon engine (code name B48) in its 320i sedan, to replace the old N20 engine; Also the new B58 six-cylinder engine will appear in the 335i too.

Compared to the current N20 engine, the new B48 four-cylinder turbo engine has a smaller bore (B48: 82mm; N20: 84mm) and longer stroke (B48: 94.6mm; N20: 90.1mm). The smaller bore/stroke ratio means this new engine is more focus on low-end torque, rather than high revving power.

Some insider news indicates, it is quite certain that the next generation of Rolls-Royce Phantom will come with a V16 engine. This engine will be turbocharged, and has latest fuel saving technologies such as cylinder deactivation. The first vehicle equipped with this engine will be a two-seat Rolls-Royce roadster developed on the same platform of the next generation Phantom, projected MSRP will be closed to one million dollars.

To your surprise, BMW may probably launch this car in China first. According to our insider, BMW considers China to be its largest market, especially the 7 series nowadays...
