Today Audi officially announced the new generation of R8 super-car, starting as a 2016 model.

For the detail specification numbers, we have covered most of them in last week’s article. What is new in today’s press release is the electric variant of the new R8, called the “R8 e-tron”.

The R8 e-tron will be powered by two electric motor, with a total output of 456hp (340kw), 679 lb-ft of torque, which propels the R8 to 62mph within 3.9s, top speed is 155mph. The lithium-ion battery capacity is increased from 49kWh to 92kWh, and the range is more than double the previous R8 e-tron, reaching 280 miles with one full charge.

Audi unveiled full details of its Prologue Avant concept today. It is believed the first new model that the Prologue concept series represent is the next-generation A6.

For the Prologue Avant concept, Audi showcases some of its latest technologies, highlighted below:

– New infotainment architecture and entertainment concept
– OLED display
– Plugin hybrid powertrain: 3.0L TDI turbo-diesel engine (353hp) + one electric motor, total system output: 455hp, 553 lb-ft of torque
– New exterior/interior styling language

That is not the end of the story: Audi will debut the wagon version of this concept, called the “Prologue Avant Concept”, in next month’s Geneva motor show. Today two more official images are released by Audi. As shown below:

Two days ago Audi showed us a teaser image of the new 2016 R8’s headlights. Although Audi has not officially publish the detail spec, today we managed to get some preliminary numbers and details.

Here are the highlights:

– No V8 engine during initial product launch
– 5.2L V10 Plus trim: 610hp@8,150RPM, 413 lb-ft torque@6,500RPM
– 5.2L V10 trim: 540hp@8,000RPM, 398 lb-ft torque@6,500RPM
– 7-speed S-Tronic dual clutch transmission
– No manual transmission
– Quattro AWD (electro-hydraulically multi-plate clutch center differential, not the viscous coupling type in the current R8)
