Meet the 600HP 2016 BMW Alpina B6 xDrive Gran Coupe

For people who is not satisfy with the 560hp BMW M6 Gran Coupe, the easiest way to boost output is to “chip” the ECU, since it is using a turbocharged V8 engine. However I personally do not recommend you to do this (I will explain the reason later in this article). Today Alpina (a Bavarian automobile manufacturer good at building cars based on BMW models) provides you a much better and cleaner solution: the 2016 B6 xDrive Gran Coupe.

BMW 340i En Route

We all know the current 2015 Mercedes-Benz C400 sedan has 329hp, and the Audi S4 also comes with 333hp, this naturally puts the current BMW 335i into a disadvantaged position when speaking of the engine output, which is “only” rated at 300hp.

We have already reported six months ago that BMW is going to fix this by introducing the 340i model. The 340i will utilize a new-design inline-6 turbocharged engine, code name “B58”, to replace the current N55 engine in the 335i.

Well, today we found out some more info on the BMW 340i:

Simply speaking, BMW is bringing the 1.5L twin-turbocharged 3-cylinder engine, from the latest Mini Cooper, to the 2-series coupe.

BMW’s New Family Member:

The new member with the 3-cylinder engine in the 2-series family will be named “218i”. The 1.5L three-banger will produce 134hp and 162 lb-ft of torque. BMW claimed the 218i can hit 100 kmh in 8.8 seconds (6-speed manual) or 8.9 seconds (8-speed auto). It is pretty slow for a BMW, you can probably beat it using a Corolla or Civic. But the small 218i can reach a respectable top speed of 132 mph.

Besides the better fuel eff...

Report: No AWD Version Plan for the BMW M3, M4 & M5

During the 2014 LA auto show last week, we have a chance to talk to Mr. Alexander Bilgeri, VP of Corporate Communications of BMW USA.

According to Mr. Bilgeri, there will not be any AWD variants for the current M3 sedan and M4 coupe/convertible. When being asked about the next-generation of the M5 sedan, he also mentioned that BMW does not plan to make an AWD variant as well.

Mr. Bilgeri explained to me that, this decision is based on the fact that BMW upper management wants to keep the M car’s RWD tradition, and they want to keep the M3/M4/M5 go be a “pure sports car”.

While technically speaking, AWD setup can greatly enhance the acceleration and handling of a large-ho...
