Currently, around 30% of new cars sold in China are using turbocharger; for European markets, this number is a whopping 85%. BorgWarner’s plan is to grow at 25% – 30% for the next 5 to 10 years.

One of the main disadvantage of turbocharged engine is the turbo lag issue. BorgWarner has been working on a solution, which will use an small electric motor to drive the turbine. Because the turbine is not only driven by the exhaust gas, therefore the turbo lag can be reduced significantly. BorgWarner has planned to released the new product 2 years later. Following is the prototype image of the electric turbocharger.
