A month ago we have reported the coming of the BRZ STI, today we got more updates from our insider friends in Subaru.
Here is the latest information summary:
1. It will not be called BRZ STI, instead a new name that implies this BRZ special model is tuned by STI;
2. Upgraded/strengthened body construction, and added chassis braces provides better torsional rigidity and ride quality;
3. Other enhancements includes: intake/exhaust, Brembo brakes, body aero kit;
4. Unfortunately the engine will be the same as the standard BRZ, NOT turbocharged, output will be around 210hp;
5. On sale 2016 summer
It is a little bit sad to hear the news that Subaru is not going to put the turbocharger in it, as what the previous BRZ STI Concept has. However, this will still be a better BRZ than the current one.

Subaru said from the very beginning the brz would never see a turbo.. Its not a bad thing though. The brz is ment to handle. And at a certain price point. You can’t offer a turbocharged track machine at a fan boi price. Not feasible. This car will perform in its class.. It’s ment to computer with miatas and the like. an affordable, fun car to drive… A turbocharged setup would require ally of engineering and changes most people don’t realize driving the price up… How many people that are actually in the posistion to buy a new sports car is gonna actually lay down 60k for a subaru?

Let’s give a BRZ a hugely unnecessary spoiler that it will never need with 210 hp a few different accents and associate it with the legendary STI platform. Shame on the designers for this one.

So funny all the people saying this car is crap. Look at the other cars in its class, the miata, the rx8, it beats them all the way it is. Subaru has said a million times it will never get a turbo from factory, however there are countless options once you buy one, to slap one on. Subaru needs to up the displacement to 2.2-2.3 liters if not turbocharging it. I sold my brz and won’t buy another one until they up the power substantially
I wouldn’t mind a lack of turbo if they just upped the displacement to 2.3 – 2.5L. Normal Aspiration is a good thing, but what’s the point of this without doing the engine up properly? I would just stick with the base model, wait until it’s out of warranty, then tune the shit out of it if I really wanted more performance.

Just buy a damn turbo. This car was meant as the successor to the Corolla 86. Just rebadged as a Subaru. This platform was not ontended to be a dynoqueen for fuck’s sake. It’s a handler that responds well. I own an FRS and I’m perfectly happy with the car. A great follow up to my previous 240 (since Nissan still won’t give us a new Silvia.
