Please note that the “VW Passat” is different in Euro market and the US market.
The Passat sold in the US, is not the same Passat sold in Europe. The Passat sold in Europe, is the B7 Passat; the Passat sold in US, is based on the NMS platform, and it is not the B7 Passat in Europe. If you feel confusing at this point, consider you are still more lucky than other markets, for example in China, VW sold two kinds of Passat at the same time, one is call VW Magotan, another is called Passat, they are related to the European B7 Passat and the US Passat, respectively.
Today VW released some information and also images of the newly redesigned European-spec Passat, therefore Passat is entering the B8 generation. Here are the spec we know at this moment:
– 2mm shorter than B7 Passat;
– 79mm longer wheel base (2.79-meter wheel base)
– 12mm wider (1832mm) and 14mm lower (1456mm)
– 188lbs lighter than B7
– Two 1.4L TSI turbo engines, with 125ps and 150ps
– 1.8L TSI turbo engine, 180ps
– Two 2.0L TSI turbo engine, 220ps and 280ps
– 1.6L TDI diesel engine, 120ps
– Three 2.0L TDI diesel engine, 150ps, 190ps and 240ps
– LED headlight and taillights
– Optional digital LCD instrument cluster, HUD etc.
