Will The 2016 Volvo XC90 Be The Last Chance To Save Volvo?

During an interview with Automotive News Europe, the Volvo CEO made some comments about the upcoming redesigned 2016 XC90: “There is no second chance, of course. This has to work. We’re confident it will.”

We all know the fact that, Volvo’s sales performance has been lacked behind other luxury brands in US market for a long time. For example, during 2013, Volvo sold a total of 61,233 units in US; compared to BMW’s 309,280 units, Mercedes-Benz’s 334,350 units, Audi’s 158,061 units and Lexus’ 273,847 units.

This year (2014) Volvo does not has major new/redesigned model releases, so do not hope its sales volume will be dramatically different than 2013...

2015 Volvo XC90 US Pricing: from $65,000 to $135,000

Although there are plently of detailed information regarding the redesigned 2015 Volvo XC90 (which we have covered here, here and here), as of last week we have not seen any news about the MSRP.

Yesterday the Wall Street Journey reported some preliminary information about how much Volvo is asking for its newest flagship SUV, a wide range from $65,000 to a whopping $135,000. Here are original quotes from the WSJ article:

“Priced in the $65,000–$135,000 range, with a sticker rivaling that of BMW’s X5 and Volkswagen’s Audi Q7”

Brief Analysis: The Volvo Scalable Product Architecture, and 2016 XC90

Today Volvo has revealed more details about the upcoming 2016 XC90. This time the information is focusing on the SUV’s architecture framework.

Starting from the 2016 XC90, most of the Volvo’s next-generation vehicles will be based on the Scalable Product Architecture (SPA). Within the SPA framework, only one thing is fixed: the distance between the front axle and the engine compartment firewall; Other than that, all other parameters are completely flexible, as shown in the bellow illustration.

Of course, the SPA is a front-wheel-drive layout.

Report: Powertrain Spec for the 2015 Volvo XC90

Volvo has released the engine spec for the redesigned 2015 XC90, here are engines offered:

D4 single turbo diesel engine: 190 hp, 295 lb-ft torque
D5 turbo+supercharged diesel engine: 225 hp, 347 lb-ft torque
T5 single turbo gas engine: 254 hp, 258 lb-ft torque
T6 turbo+supercharged gas engine: 320hp, 295 lb-ft torque
T8 turbo+supercharged gas engine for front axle, electric motor for rear axle, plug-in hybrid combined power: 400hp, 472 lb-ft torque

All engines will be paired to a 8-speed automatic transmission sourced from Aisin...

2015 Volvo S60L Will Come to US, Made in China

The trend of long wheelbase version seems to affect US market considerably in the recent years, for example the upcoming 2015 Infiniti M70L, also the news that Tesla is considering LWB version of the Model S.
