The 2016 Volvo XC90 is the second generation of the Swedish auto maker’s flagship SUV. The first generation of XC90 runs from 2003 to 2014, which is an extremely long product life. As we have mentioned in our previous article, the new generation of XC90 is extremely important to the whole Volvo brand.

Recently we had the opportunity to test drive the 2016 XC90, so let’s see how the new XC90 hold up against other competitors.

Test Vehicle Information

The XC90 we have test driven is the T6 AWD Inscription trim, and it is fully loaded to the level that its MSRP reaches an astonishing $75,395, a whopping $26,495 more than the base trim price ($48,900)...

Recently Volvo USA has announced the pricing for the 2016 XC90 T8 trim, today the detailed order sheet is leaked out on the internet.

The XC90 T8 is powered by a turbocharged+supercharged 2.0L 4-cylinder engine, good for 318hp and 295 lb-ft of torque; there is an electric motor installed in the transmission which provides another 46hp and 110 lb-ft of torque to the front wheels; besides this, there is a second electric motor in charge of driving the rear wheels, which supplies 82hp and 177 lb-ft of torque. Total system combined output is rated at 400hp and 472 lb-ft.

Yes you are correct, together with the previously reported 4-seat version of the new XC90, today in the 2015 Shanghai auto show, Volvo also announced an even higher-end version: a XC90 with only 3 seats!

While we think such variant is targeting at a niche market, it is interesting to enjoy the below interior images.

Anyway, Volvo say “yes” to the above question. Today Volvo introduced the XC90 Excellence, which offers a 4-seat configuration inside the passenger cabin. If you think the 4-seat XC90 is somewhat crazy, you will be more surprised that Volvo is also bringing in a 3-seat version of the XC90, in next week’s 2015 Shanghai auto show.

As the market has gradually recovered from the 2008 financial crisis, with the low oil prices these days, the SUV sector is booming. And the trend is also true for the performance SUV too. Many auto makers have produce their performance oriented SUV with high-output engine.
