2016 MX-5 At the 2014 LA Auto Show

There were TONS of redesigns at the LA AutoShow, believe us. Mazda ALSO displayed the completely-redesigned 2016 MX-5 Miata and we got the first look.

Previously you only say leather wrapping and stitched dashes on luxury cars but NOWadays leather wrapped and stitched dashes seems to be a new norm for the automobile industry. You can see the new MX-5 Miata is now flaunting leather all over.

The All New 2016 Mazda CX-3

The CX-3 is a newly designed model in the Mazda product line. Mazda categorized the CX-3 to be a compact SUV, which will compete with Honda’s (also new designed) HR-V, and Nissan’s Juke.

The US market will get the 2.0L SKYACTIV-G gasoline engine, mated to a 6-speed automatic transmission. Both FWD and AWD configuration are offered.

Today we heard news from Mazda that despite other markets in the rest of the world will get the 1.5L engine, the US-bound new MX-5 will come with the naturally aspirated 2.0L 4-cylinder engine, complete with the auto maker’s latest SkyActiv technology.

This is what we know by far. No output numbers or any technical details at this moment.

Last week Mazda released the official images of the fully redesigned 2016 MX-5 Miata, but it kept the engine specification as secret.

Today a Mazda insider broke the secret and let out some information about the MX-5’s engine, here are the details:

– Base model will come with a 1.5L SKYACTIV 4-cylinder petrol engine
– Engine output: 129hp (96kW)
– Compression ratio: 13.0:1
– Curb weight: 2,249 lb (1,020 kg) – for manual transmission version

Compared to the current generation (2015 MX-5 Miata), the 2016 model reduces the weight by at least 231 lb (compared to the Sport 5MT trim). However, the engine output also drop by 38hp (down from 167hp).

Tonight, Mazda will announced the completely new-designed 4th generation of the MX-5 Miata, and it is planned as the 2016 model year.
