Last year, we have reported that Volkswagen has been working on the electric turbocharger for a while. Now, it looks like VW is going to put this new technology in both gasoline and diesel engines.

According to Dr. Ulrich Hackenberg, Audi’s CTO, the upcoming Audi SQ7 will use a brand new diesel V8 engine, with twin electric turbochargers. Audi names this to be “E-Boost”.

By using electric motors to spin up the turbo’s turbine without help from the exhaust gas, the electric turbocharger theoretically has zero turbo lag and it responses to your throttle input instantly...

As the market has gradually recovered from the 2008 financial crisis, with the low oil prices these days, the SUV sector is booming. And the trend is also true for the performance SUV too. Many auto makers have produce their performance oriented SUV with high-output engine. For example the BMW X5M/X6M, Mercedes-Benz ML63 AMG/GL63 AMG, Porsche Cayenne Turbo S, Range Rover Sport SVR, Jeep Grand Cherokee SRT. Now it looks like Audi and Volvo also want to join the competition too.

Today, Audi unveiled the completely redesigned next-gen 2016 Audi Q7 SUV. Besides the all-new exterior/interior styling, major changes are in its smaller exterior dimension than the previous generation, and it is also significantly lighter too.

Q7 Highlights

More Than Rumors?

It is also rumored that Lexus is going to design the next-generation of the RX SUV to be a 3-row-seater. In fact, during our interview with Mr. Yasuo Kajino, Group Manager of the Lexus Design Division, Mr. Kajino mentioned to me that the LF-C2 concept does not indicate only one production model, in fact it reflects the possibility of several new model design styles. During an interview with automotive industry media, Dr. Ulrich Hackenberg, board member for technical development of Audi, revealed that the new generation of the Q7 SUV, will receive the S model treatment, which confirms the existence of the SQ7. The SQ7 will be in the market as a 2016 model.
