From a recent media interview, Michael McHale, Director of Corporate Communications Subaru of America, confirmed the STI version of the BRZ will be coming in “a couple years” (quoting his original words).
There is no further information at this point. However, we guess the BRZ STI will be the production version of the STI Performance Concept, which Subaru has debuted in the 2015 New York auto show.
The Subaru STI concept car shown in the NY auto show is equipped with a turbocharged 2.0L flat-4 engine, producing 345hp. With such level of power, we believe it should satisfy buyers who want more power and are thinking the current BRZ is underpowered.

Yes.
Whitney Horn you have to get it now
Subaru will NOT build this car. At least not turbocharge it. This is the same company that didn’t want to pay to have a hatchback and sedan WRX, even though it’s one of their best selling cars and ~50% of those cars were hatchbacks. BRZ sales on in the tank right now, and you want Subaru to pay to turbocharge it? Also, Toyota would have to be onboard with this project as they own the injection system for the engine in the BRZ. AND THEN what engine would it get? The proclaimed horsepower goes way above what the current FA20DIT is safely capable of. And the EJ engine is old, tired, and about to be replaced. They’re not going to extend it’s life another few years just to throw it in a car that’s barely selling and even fewer would buy with a turbo engine.
Idiot
Your posts are false
Please enlighten me
You kind of have to read past the first sentence I wrote to see why I don’t think they will build it…
This news is from Subaru NA, and is widely reported in many other media.
Let’s go back to 2012 when this car launched. Three summers ago, Subaru, the company that actually builds all versions of the cars, had to crank up production to meet the unexpected demand of the car. At one point, the twins were even the fastest selling cars in the U.S., spending just four or five days on a car lot before going off to their new homes. That kind of turnaround is insane.
Now, all of a sudden, they’re not selling well? Sales are “disappointing”? What happened?
I’ll tell you what those reports are: wrong. The car is selling just fine, at least here in the U.S.
Do your homework before you enlighten others of your unintelligent posts
FR-S sold 18,000 units last year, which was in line with original expectations for the car. Subaru also said they’re happy with U.S. sales at about 8,500 units a year. Combined, both FR-S and BRZ outsold the WRX in 2013.
COMBINED the cars sold more than a car with a lackluster interior and below average gas mileage? Wow…congrats. The refreshed WRX is selling much faster now (I just bought one) and yes the BRZ is not selling well, probably due in large to the WRX refresh.
Lol do your homework
I don’t completely doubt that Subaru will make an “STi” version. What I don’t see happening at all is a turbocharged BRZ. Not to even go into the cross production issues that Subaru and Toyota would have, what engine would it use?
Btw, no turbo is confirmed for the BRZ sti anyway.
You’re an idiot dude. No turbo is exactly what I said they wouldn’t do in the first place. “Do your homework” You’re like one of those little kids that likes to stir the pot, and you ended up agreeing with my original post anyways.
I would assume they would still use the FA20, but without Toyota on the ride, it ain’t happening
Dumbass you said sales suck
I corrected your dumbfuck ass
The wrx (yeah he bought one and bragged about it)
Good luck with that
“Subaru will NOT build this car. At least not turbocharge it.”
The first two sentences of my first post. They will not turbocharge the BRZ. I’m out.
Didn’t I oppose that ? Nope, good, leave. I won a long time ago braddah
The reason this car WILL sell.
Back when the Zed,Frs,86 came out, everyone who wanted one basically got one.
The biggest complaint was the lackluster power.
With the burst of sales they probably over ordered to build more thinking demand would hold.
Now, with last year only a few thousand if that being sold, they have all the bodies laying around.
May as well add the turbo and get their money’s worth.
Lets all just hope the Levorg comes to the States.
Not to get involved by Erik Bracker actually won this one. WRX is outselling because it isn’t as short. The BRZ doesnt really stand out to the tall crowd that has to do gymnastics just to get in lol
At the same time the Rex is killing the Zed currently, in Japan right now the Levorg (292 horse,292 torque) is being sold literally twice as fast as Rexs (2 sold for every Rex)
Daniel Hollembaek, you’ve basically been saying what Erik as been saying but in a different manor.
Go suck his d then
How ’bout you grow up, kid?
Maybe learn how to read and comprehend too. Or. Wait…. maybe.. nah. You’re not intelligent enough to do that.
Right, do your homework lol
And get off my nuts
Funny how you keep bringing up male genitals. Perhaps you have a fetish, mate.
Sales are doing very well. Research it. Did I oppose to his nonturbo argument? Nope. So your argument doesn’t apply here boy.
I could bring up the very thing you can’t have most?
Vagina?
Women?
Money?
Friends?
Humor?
A life?
Being able to research facts about what the fuck you’re saying
Nah
Go away
๐
Its sad that you have to litter a post with multiple comments in an attempt to make a point.
I wasn’t trying to make an argument. I was making a point. Maybe if you learned simple comprehension you would know that, but clearly you don’t.
The fact that you’re able to jump right back and respond to me says that you don’t have a life, especially the fact that you’re so angry about something this pathetic.
Friends? I don’t want any.
Women? I have one.
And clearly.. you didn’t read what I had stated.
Subaru may put the turbo in to make an STI to get rid of an overabundance of shells. It doesn’t matter how well they’re selling, or how poorly. If you have excess direct materials such as rolling shells, or shells in general, you may as well make something people will pay for to make money back.
If they don’t use up the shells that they may have overordered, they’ll just be a sunk cost.
Do you even understand simple fundamentals of how a business works?
I doubt it.
And jesus, I just noticed a the time gap. It actually took you 5 minutes to post a shitty comeback, one word comments, and a few idiotic pictures? Bit on the slow side, are we?
LOL I ain’t even reading your ridouclously long comment. I sense feels were hurt
Just goes to show you can’t read, nor can you comprehend anything you read.
Since you seem to have a fetish with male genitals.
Dude relax with all your penis infatuations
LoL last time I read what you wrote was a bunch of nonsesne bullshit you apparently came up with. Please, and can’t empathize this enough, PLEASE RESEARCH
Learn basic reading and comprehension skills. I cannot *emphasize* that enough.
Maybe even how a business actually works, then you MIGHT have a chance at comprehending what I said. Until then you won’t, as you’ve clearly shown.
LoL this is so much fun
Hooooo
You must be all mad over there getting put in place
It is. I agree. Seeing just how little you actually know compared to how well your comprehension skills are. I have to admit, they’re quite lackluster.
Why do you wear pantiehoses on your forehead btw? Lmfao
Did you do you homework yet?
My comprehension is above your unintelligent mind.
Please cancel my subscription; I have had enough of your issues.
Dude calm the fuck down, let’s all just hope they make it. How’s that sound? Or will u fight over that somehow to
I’m very confused second time I’ve looked at this it’s real it’s it’s not real I mean I’ll never buy one so doesn’t really matter but what’s with people getting off posting bullshit is your life really that boring
Here in canada we will get it but no turbo
None of this is true
Why would they not turbo it? That’s what an sti is.
