Chrysler Engines Gets A Boost, Finally
Vehicles from the Chrysler Group are looking good these past few years, and also have powerful engines with reasonable pricing. For example, you can buy the highly acclaimed 700hp+ Dodge Challenger/Charger SRT Hellcat for less than $70k.
The careful reader may notice one thing from Chrysler: its engines are missing some modern key technologies: direct injection and turbocharging. The reason for this is: it takes an auto maker a lot of knowledge reserve and R&D to make direct injection and turbocharging production-ready. And it seems the day is finally coming for Chrysler now.
According from a report from Automotive News, Chrysler is going to put direct injection on the firm’s famous Pentastar 3.6L V6 engine. And this is also prepares the V6 engine to be turbocharging-capable.
The new direct injection 3.6L V6 will first roll out in the 2016 Jeep Grand Cherokee, which you can see on the street sometime next year.
There is more exciting news for Chrysler: the same report also says the Pentastar engine family will add another member: a 3.2L V6 engine, with direct injection also. The 3.2L V6 will appear in the 2016 Chrysler Town & Country minivan, and mated to a 9-speed automatic transmission sourced from ZF. The state-of-the-art 9AT will boost the minivan’s fuel efficiency by as high as 25%! Not bad Chrysler, not bad.
Do you think Chrysler is moving in the right direction? Are they a little late to the game?
