While Tesla has been working on other new models such as the Model X, and the “upcoming” entry-level sedan which is said to be starting at the mid $30k range, it is constantly making enhancements to the existing Model S, to keep consumers exciting on the brand.
Today the bay area-based auto maker released a new variant of the Model S, named the “70D”, served as the entry-level trim as the product line. By its name, the Model S 70D has an AWD drivetrain. The total combined output of the front and rear electric motors reaches 513hp (383kW), and the battery capacity has been increased to 70 kWh too. Currently Tesla’s official website (shown below) says the 70D trim’s output is 329hp. This is incorrect – since the discontinued Model S 60 already has 380hp, no way the more expensive 70D has less output.
Thanks to the increased power and battery capacity, the 0-60 time of the Model S 70D is 5.2 seconds with a 140mph top speed, and the range is bumped up to 240 miles for a full charge.
The new entry-level Model S starts at a MSRP of $75,000 (not including the $7,500 federal tax incentive and other state incentives). It also comes with some features standard, for example the navigation and also the supercharging. Buyers can also pick optional features, such as the air suspension ($2,500), autopilot ($2,500), upgraded audio system ($2,500) and premium pkg ($5,000).
Besides the hardware upgrade, 3 more exterior colors are offered: Warm Silver, Obsidian Black and Ocean Blue.

Introducing the All-Wheel Drive Model S 70D
The Tesla Motors Team April 8, 2015
Today, we are introducing the Model S 70D, an all-wheel drive electric car with a 0-60 time of 5.2 seconds and a 250 mile range at 65 mph.
Even at a starting price of $75k, the Model S 70D offers a broad and compelling set of features. Moreover, when one factors in the cost advantages over an internal combustion engine vehicle, including fuel savings and incentives, the actual cost of owning Model S 70D comes to about $55k over five years (the average length of new car ownership).
In addition to having independently operational front and rear motors, the 70D includes Supercharging to enable free long-distance travel, Autopilot hardware, navigation, blind spot detection and many other features. As with every Model S, the 70D will receive free over-the-air updates that add functionality and improve the driving experience for years to come.
Starting today, you can also order any Models S in three new colors: Ocean Blue, Obsidian Black, and Warm Silver.
