Lexus LC500 and LC500h in The Pipeline

Lexus LC500 & LC500h Trademarked

It looks like Lexus higher-ups  were working hard during the Thanksgiving holiday season. Why You ask? Because they registered both the “LC500” and “LC500h” trademark in multiple countries on November 24th and 25th. Let’s take a look at the details below:

US (11/24) – serial number: 86462781 (for LC500) and 86462851 (for LC500h)
Canada (11/24) – application number: 1704062 (for LC500) and 1704063 (for LC500h)
Australia (11/25) – TM number: 1660392 (for LC500) and 1660396 (for LC500h)

From Concept to Production

The LC500/500h is actually the production version of the 2012 LF-LC concept car. For non-hybrid vehicles, Lexus usually applies the model number to be the displacement of its engine times 100, for example the RX350 is using a 3.5L V6 engine (3.5 X 100 = 350). Therefore it is obvious that the LC500 will use a 5.0L V8 engine, which we know Lexus already has.

For the LC500h, if you are borrowing the idea from other Lexus hybrid vehicle examples such as the RX450h is using a 3.5L engine, and then claim the LC500h may use a 4.0L displacement engine, then you might be wrong. Not only because Lexus does not have a 4.0L engine in its product at this moment, but also think about the case of CT200h (which has a 1.8L engine).

My best guess is: the LC500h will use the 4.6L V8 engine, which is used in the LS460 sedan currently; or the 3.5L V6 engine which can be found in the GS450h sedan.

Anyway, expect to see the production LC coupe hitting the street within the next 1 to 2 years.
