Back in 2012, Jaguar Land Rover signed contract with Chinese auto maker Chery Automobile, to set up a manufacture plant in Changshu, a city in China’s Jiangsu province. This is a 50:50 joint venture. Below image is the ceremony of start construction of the factory in Nov.18, 2012.
The factory will be completed in the 4th quarter of this year, and its annual production volume will reach 130,000 units.
The first model the Land Rover Chinese factory will produce is the Evoque, and the second model (not finally decided yet) will be the next generation of LR2. The Chinese built Evoque is already revealed in last week’s 2014 Guangzhou Auto Show.
The long term road map of the Chery Jaguar Land Rover factory will be also building Jaguar vehicles. It is estimated that by 2021, half of the global passenger vehicles production will take place in China. More and more evidence show that it is hard for a auto maker to grow in the future, if it ignores the Chinese market.
