When we are talking about a recall of a specific car model, in our impression it is usually something like: you receive a notice in the mail, then you bring your car to the dealership; you get a loaner car while they are working on your vehicle, after several hours or several days you get your fixed car back.
Some recalls may be very complicated, for example recently Porsche is recalling 785 of its 2014 911 GT3 to replace the whole engine. But have you thought of a recall that you will DIY, and you can even complete it within 1 minute? Now this is what 468 of the Infiniti QX80 owners will face with.
According to Nissan USA, some of the 2014 model year Infiniti QX80 equipped with 20-inch wheels have an incorrect label which lists a wrong value of the Gross Axle Weight Rating. It should be 4,343 lbs instead of the 4,497 shown on the label. Because this may result in the vehicle being overloaded, which increases the risk of crash, Nissan is implementing a recall to fix this issue.
The fix is extremely simple: Nissan will send the corresponding owner the correct label and an installation instruction. We know it is quite possible that the instruction will has contents like: find the location of the label, remove the old one, then stick the new one on it. Most people can do this within minutes.
Of course for those who are too busy to do this by yourself, of course you can take your QX80 to any Infiniti dealership and let them do this for you.
