Is The Volkswagen Phaeton Able to Run at 300 kmh?

If you have done some research on the internet, you may have already seen there are plenty of articles mentioning that, during the design phase the Phaeton is required to “be capable of being driven all day at 300 km/h”.

In fact there is no way the Phaeton can reach 300 km/h, not to mention it is “being driven all day” at that speed.  Below we will provide a brief analysis to show you why.

The Phaeton’s drag coefficient is 0.32 (Cd = 0.32). According to the air drag force formula we can calculate the force that the Phaeton will be facing:

Air Drag Force = 1/2 x Cd x Rho x Speed^2 x Area

In the above, “Rho” is the air’s density, and “Area” is the cross sectional area of ...

Next Volkswagen Phaeton Pushed Back to 2018, Will Keep Its Price Level

For months ago, we have reported a possible move that VW may be taking, that the next generation of the Phaeton will be “downgraded” to compete with significantly cheaper competitors such as the Chrysler 300 and the Ford Taurus.

Today there is an update from VW, it is simply that: the above plan is abandoned.

The next VW Phaeton will still be expensive, come with V8 and W12 engines, and may be priced way north of the $70k mark. The new Phaeton will be announced in 2018 as a 2019 model.

Next VW Phaeton Will Be Significantly Cheaper

We got news from our VW source that, the next generation of the Volkswagen Phaeton will be position similar to the Chrysler 300 and Ford Taurus.

This is a big change that can change your mindset that how you view today’s Phaeton. For your reference, the current Phaeton is sharing the same platform with the Bentley Continental GT, and is capable of holding a 12-cylinder engine in front of its front wheel and provide power to all of its four wheels.

If the new Phaeton is designed to compete with cars that are significantly cheaper than the current model’s price tag, we are almost sure that it will not be so close to the Bentley models as it does today...
