List: Cars whose engine and transmission are not bolted together

Nowadays, cars usually have their engine bolted to transmission together directly, because it is easy to implement and saves costs. For some sports cars which seek to have a better weight distribution, the engine and transmission are located in different section of the car body, therefore requires an extra solid torque tube to connect them. This is an exotic design, for example, the below image shows the LFA’s torque tube.

BMW group front-wheel-drive models will use Aisin transmissions

With more collaborations between BMW and Toyota, we will find more of the Japanese company’s product in the German brand (Aisin is owned by its parent company Toyota).

According to BMW, their future FWD platform sedans’ transmission will be supplied by Aisin (the current BMW RWD cars’ transmission are majorly sourced from ZF).

The new Aisin transmission is improved for the damping capability of the torque converter, which is suitable for turbo engine.
