The current 7th-generation of the Porsche 911 has been started as the 2012 model year, and we know a mid-cycle-refresh is coming this year.

On this past Tuesday someone is able to snatch a photo when Porsche was testing the refreshed 2016 911 on the street of Prague in Czech Republic, as shown below.

In the photo we can see the major change to the rear of the sports car is the shape of the engine compartment vent (grille lines changed from horizontal to vertical).

For your comparison, below is the photo taken at a similar angle of the current 2015 model year Porsche 911.

Due to the zero-RPM instant maximum torque benefit, as has been proven in many existing examples (such as the Porsche 918 Spyder, Ferrari LaFerrari etc.), sports car with an electric motor constantly get extremely good performance when compared to cars only with internal combustion engines.

Since the cost of manufacturing hybrid powertrain is dropping, and its mechanical performance is raising within these years, now it is practically for auto makers to introduce hybrid powertrain in their sports-oriented models. This is exactly the case for the next-generation Porsche 911.

The next-gen 911 will be debuted  about 3 years later, the future 911 Carrera 4 will be the first...

The 2016 911 GT3 RS is equipped with Porsche’s largest displacement (4.0L) flat-6 engine, outputting 500hp and 338 lb-ft of torque. For more detailed information please see our previous report here.

Last Monday we have shown you the leaked spec sheet of the RS version of the Porsche 911 GT3, now it is official.

Major specifications are exactly as described in the previous leaked document:

– 4.0L naturally aspirated flat-6 engine, 500hp and 338 lb-ft of torque
– PDK transmission
– 0-60mph in 3.1 seconds; 1/4 mile only takes 11.2 seconds
– Rear wheel steering, torque vectoring rear differential
– Magnesium roof and carbon fiber hood and trunk lid, 22 lbs lighter than the 911 GT3
– US pricing: starts at $175,900, plus $995 for S&H

The Porsche 911 GT3 is an exceptional sports car that sends out 475hp from a naturally aspirated 3.8L flat-6 engine. But it seems Porsche is not going to stop at this, and today we heard a news that a hotter version, called “911 GT3 RS” is coming.

From the below document scans you can see the very detailed spec for this proposed GT3 RS variant. The most outstanding upgrade is the engine: Porsche increased the 3.8L displacement to 4.0L, so the output power reaches the 500hp mark; torque has been enhanced to 339 lb-ft too. This is 25hp and 14 lb-ft more than the 3.8L engine in the 911 GT3.
