The upcoming Mercedes-Benz AMG GT is the successor of the current SLS AMG.

According to Mercedes-Benz, the AMG GT will be smaller, lighter and the most important – cheaper, compared to the SLS AMG.  There are already many spy shots of the AMG GT’s exterior. Today we got the first real photo of its cabin and center console:

Like other latest Mercedes-Benz vehicles, the AMG GT will come with the iPad style, center-mounted LCD screen; the round AC vents are also present.

The AMG GT will be the first Mercedes-Benz vehicle to receive the newly designed M178 V8 engine. For more information about the M178 engine, please see our report here.

Nowadays, cars usually have their engine bolted to transmission together directly, because it is easy to implement and saves costs. For some sports cars which seek to have a better weight distribution, the engine and transmission are located in different section of the car body, therefore requires an extra solid torque tube to connect them. This is an exotic design, for example, the below image shows the LFA’s torque tube.

But please do not misunderstand that this is a requirement for a good sports car...
