Porsche has not sold any car that has 4-cylinder engine for a long time in the US, however this will be overthrown next year, when the 2017 model year of the Boxster and Cayman hit the market.

According to Matthias Mueller, CEO of Porsche AG, the German sports car maker is going to put at least one turbocharged flat-4 engine in the mid-cycle-updated 2017 Boxster and Cayman.

The most possible choice of the 4-cylinder engine will be the 2.0L unit which is currently used on the Macan CUV, delivering 233hp and 258 lb-ft of torque.

The recent investigation report about the accident that killed Paul Walker in his friend’s Porsche Carrera GT indicates that, the 93mph speed before the crashing (the speed limit of that road is 45mph) is one of the major factors. Also, the 9-year old tires installed on the car is another contributing factor.

The Porsche Carrera GT is a limited edition production car which is sold in the US market for around 2 years. The car was discontinued in 2006 due to the reason that it did not meet the latest US airbag regulations.
