Although looks very similar, the 2016 Camaro is completely different than the current 2015 model: it is the 6th-generation, all-new design. The following information is fresh from GM’s debut event today.

Highlights

– 3 engine options: 2.0L turbo 4-cylinder, 3.6L naturally aspirated V6, 6.2L naturally aspirated V8;
– 2.0L turbo I4: 275hp and 295 lb-ft@3,000 RPM; direct-injection, VVT, aluminum head and block; 6-speed manual transmission or 8-speed GM 8L45 automatic;

The current 5th-gen Chevrolet Camaro has been in the market since 2009, and obviously it is due for a redesign. Chevrolet will debut the all-new 6th-gen Camaro on this 05/16. However, today GM released some details about this exciting pony/muscle car.

The first teaser image (shown below) is the tri-Y exhaust manifold of the 6.2L LT1 V8 engine, which is to be used on the 2016 Camaro SS.

2015 will be the last model year for the current generation of Camaro. For the next generation, which starts at 2016, the Camaro will be build on the GM Alpha platform which the current Cadillac CTS is also using.

By using the new platform, it is expected that the 2016 Camaro will lose several hundred pounds of weight when compared to the current generation. For your reference, the 2015 Camaro with V6 engine has a curb weight of 3700lb+, which makes it almost as heavy as some mid-size RWD luxury sedans.
