All-New 2016 BMW 7-Series (G11/G12) Details Explained

The all-new 6th-generation BMW 7 series will start production in this July, and last week you have seen how the new 7 series looks. Today we will show you some highlights of the new BMW flagship sedan’s specifications.

Below are what we have known at this moment:

– Carbon fiber (Carbon fiber–reinforced polymer – CFRP)/aluminum/steel hybrid material car body construction; the CFRP used on the G11/12 7 series is 50% lighter than steel, and 30% lighter than aluminum; Used in places such as the B-pillar, C-pillar, transmission tunnel, roof rails etc.
– Hybrid material construction contributes to a 40kg (88.2 lbs) weight reduction for the body-in-white;
– Revised wheel hub reduce weight by 0.4kg each (0.88lbs)
– Brake calipers are made with full aluminum (calipers on the current F01 7 Series is made with steel/aluminum combination)
– Unsprung weight reduced by 15% (thanks to the lighter wheel hub, brake caliper and enhanced suspension)
– Aluminum doors reduce 10% of weight
– New polyethylene heat/noise insulation material is lighter
– Total curb weight is 130kg (286lbs) lighter than the current 7 series
– Gasoline engine options: turbo-charged I4 (B48B20O0, 260hp, 730i), I6 (B58B30M0, 330hp, 740i/740Li), V8 (N63B44O2, 460hp, 750i/750Li) and V12 (N74B66U1, 570-600hp, 760Li)
– Diesel engine options: turbo-diesel I6 (B57, 272hp)
– Hybrid powertrain options: 730e (275hp), 740e/740Le (400hp); all hybrid versions come with ZF 9-speed automatic transmission and xDrive
– ZF-sourced 8-speed automatic transmission
– Air suspension is standard on both front and rear wheels, with active damper system
– New “ADAPTIVE” mode added in the driving mode selection (on top of the COMFORT+, COMFORT, SPORT, SPORT+ modes)
– When selecting COMFORT+ mode, air suspension will raise vehicle height by 20mm (will return to default height once it reaches speed of 35 km/h); when selecting SPORT and SPORT+ mode, vehicle will be lowered by 10mm
– Integral steering system; first time such feature can be equipped with xDrive models at the same time
– Enhanced driver assistance features (lane departure warning with active side collision protection, rear collision prevention and cross-traffic warning etc)
– iDrive system with new gesture control feature
– Remote control parking (use your BMW key to remotely park your 7 series)
– Full LCD instrument cluster
