Toyota Crown + 2.0 turbo engine and 8AT
Today, the first China-spec Toyota Crown has rolled off the production line. The Crown sold in China is based on the Toyota Crown Majesta, which is sold in Japan. Compared to the Crown Majesta, the China-spec Crown has added another 2.95-in to the wheelbase, makes it to be 115.2 inches.
One big news to the Crown: besides the current engine option (the 2.5L V6, with 6AT), Toyota is going to introducing the 2.0L turbo 4-cylinder (which is currently used on the 2015 Lexus NX200t), and mates it to the Aisin-sourced 8-speed automatic transmission.
This marks the first time that the 8AR-FTS 2.0T engine’s longitudinal engine layout application, and it is also the first time that this engine is equipped with the Aisin 8-speed transmission.
We believe Lexus will also put the 2.0T + 8-speed transmission powertrain into the IS sedan (IS200t), and also probably the GS sedan (GS200t) in the next model year for US market.
