We all know that people here in the US like SUV’s more than any other places in the world (arguably). Almost all auto makers doing business in the US have their own SUV models (even Tesla is making the SUV-like Model X).
Is the 2015 Fiat 500X Really Fiat’s Answer To the US SUV Market?
This is not the case for Fiat previously – the Fiat 500 series products are all small hatchbacks (or hatchback-like models), which Fiat saw less than satisfactory sales performance and needed to do something about it.
Therefore, Fiat now provided their answer to this issue, by introducing the 500X today in the 2014 LA auto show – a compact SUV based on the same platform as the Jeep Renegade.
There are two engine options for the 2015 Fiat 500X: a 1.4L turbo 4-cylinder making 160hp and 184 lb-ft of torque; and another 2.4L naturally aspirated 4-cylinder engine sourced from Chrysler, good for 180hp. Both 6-speed manual transmission and a 9-speed ZF-sourced automatic transmission will be offered; however, the 2.4L engine can only mated to the 9-speed one.
Since it is claimed to be an SUV, the Fiat 500X buyer can also opt for the AWD option; FWD is standard on all trims.
During the debut event in the auto show today, A Fiat executive described the 500X as “sexy” and is their answer to the US fascination of the SUV. Fiat also played several short advertisement videos during the event, some of the content even has strong indication of “sexy”, including one video showing a male trying to take Viagra pills, but somehow accidentally dropped the pill; and the pill finally flied into a Fiat 500’s gas tank, then the 500 started to “grow” and become the 500X. We can tell Fiat’s strong marketing campaign is making a HUGE impact on their vehicles.
