For some consumers, a V8 engine seems to be a must-have when purchasing an SUV. Those who have this in mind must be disappointed when they first looked at the upcoming 2015 XC90’s specification sheet: because only 4-cylinder engines are offered in the new XC90.
But how about a powertrain that is equivalent, or even better than the traditional V8 engine? The XC90 has an answer for you: the XC90 T8 trim.
The 2015 XC90 T8 has a supercharged and turbocharged 2.0L 4-cylinder engine, which is good for 320hp; it also has an electric motor driving the rear wheels, which offers another 80hp. The total combined output is rated at 400hp and 472 lb-ft of torque. For more details about the XC90 powertrain, please see our previous report here.
Obviously, the name of “T8” indicates its ability to compete with the V8 engine. The next question will be: how much is the XC90 T8? For US market, currently we only know the T6 trim; but Volvo of Canada has made a quicker step by announcing pricing for the T8 trim. Below are the price tag:
2015 XC90 T8 R-Design: CAD $73,400
2015 XC90 T8 Inscription: CAD $75,000
Given cars sold in Canada are always more than 10% expensive than in the US, we are pretty sure when the XC90 T8 goes for sale here in the states, the MSRP will be less than $70,000.
How do you feel about the price tag?
