For those who wanted to but missed the chance to order the 1927-unit limited production of the 2015 XC90 First Edition, here is a news that may probably make you feel better: Volvo has announced the R-Design trim for the 2015 XC90, which includes features that the limited-production First Edition won’t have.
New features for the XC90 R-Design trims include exclusive upgrades to both of the exterior and interior materials and styling. The R-Design trims are available for all powertrain selection (from T5 to T8 models).
For the exterior, R-Design trims has a redesigned grille, lower front spoiler, window in silk metal, R-Design dual tailpipe surround, integrated bright roof rails and mirror covers in matte silver. Buyers will also get the 20-in or optional 22-in R-Design alloy wheels.
For the interior, R-Design XC90s will be upgraded withsports seats, plus a perforated leather steering wheel. Other special R-Design details include treatments to gearshift knob, pedals, floor mats and illuminated thread plates.
Normally speaking, Vovlo R-Design trims usually has mechanical upgrades on top of the exterior/interior aesthetic changes. For example the current S60 R-Design, it has enhanced/sport tuned anti-roll bars, rear dampers, the springs are 15% stiffer, with quicker steering, plus the addition of the front strut brace.
At this moment we are not sure whether the XC90 R-Design will has some sort of chassis enhancements.
