Last month, we have reported the 2016 model year GL-class is going to replace its old 4.7L V8 with the latest M177 4.0L twin-turbo V8 engine. Today Mercedes-Benz announced its second move on the V8 engine swapping: the current 5.5L naturally aspirated V8 (M273) used on the G500/G550 will go for good, and the new turbo-charged M177 4.0L V8 is going to assume its role.

Below are major changes to the 2016 G-Class:

– Diesel G350d (not sold in US) with the 3.0L turbo-diesel V6’s output increased to 245hp and 442 lb-ft (up from the current model’s 211hp and 398 lb-ft)
