Redesigned 2016 Lexus RX Released

Yesterday Lexus unveiled the all-new 4th-generation RX CUV in the 2015 New York auto show.

The biggest news is the engine on the RX350 is upgraded to 300hp, and using fuel direct-injection. Below are the highlights:

– RX350: 3.5L direct-injection V6, 300hp
– RX450h: 3.5L Atkinson cycle V6 + electric motor, combined output: 300hp
– 8-speed automatic transmission
– Both FWD and AWD are available
– F Sport trim available
– Optional 3rd-row seat (not mentioned in the press release)

The 2016 RX rides on the same platform as the latest Toyota Highlander, for example they has the same wheelbase (109.8in), and the rear track width is also the same (64.2in).

All-New 4th-Gen Lexus RX First Teaser Image Released

The 2016 model year of the Lexus RX will be fully redesigned, and it is going to be announced in the upcoming 2015 New York auto show. Today Lexus has published a teaser image and also a short video about the new RX. Below is the teaser image.

It can be seen that with the fastback tail shape, it is very unlikely that the new RX can accommodate the 3rd-row seat, which suggests that it is still a SUV with two rows of seats.

The current Lexus RX (3rd-generation) was debuted back in November, 2008, now more than 6 years passed and it is due for a renewal. It has been rumored that Lexus would debut the redesigned 4th-gen RX at the 2015 Detroit auto show which is ongoing this week, but sadly the debut did not happen.

However this is understandable – because the Detroit auto show is more focused on performance models, not for soccer mom vehicles or daily commute cars. But looks like the 2015 New York auto show, which is going to take place this April, is a good time for the new RX to bow to the public.

More Than Rumors?

It is also rumored that Lexus is going to design the next-generation of the RX SUV to be a 3-row-seater. In fact, during our interview with Mr. Yasuo Kajino, Group Manager of the Lexus Design Division, Mr. Kajino mentioned to me that the LF-C2 concept does not indicate only one production model, in fact it reflects the possibility of several new model design styles.
