Lexus GS-F and RC-F Convertibles Confirmed, with 500HP V8 Engine

If you’ve been following our articles about the Lexus GS-F sedan, you may have probably known that the rumor has it,  the Lexus GS-F & RC-F will come with a 500hp 5.0L V8 beast if an engine.

Now there’s MORE exciting news: in this year’s Lexus USA National Dealer Meeting in Los Angeles recently, Akio Toyoda, CEO of the Toyota corporation, confirmed:

1. It will build the convertible version of the RC-F, which is currently available in the Coupe version.
2. The F variant of the GS sedan, the GS-F, is also coming. It is using the same 5.0L V8 engine as the RC-F coupe, but the output will be enhanced to around 500hp...

Here are a set of photos I have taken in the 2014 Orange County Auto Show, for the 2015 Lexus RC-F.

The interior of the RC-F is very similar to the latest IS sedan, and some of the panels on the door are made of hard plastic. I am pretty sure for the upcoming GS-F sedan, this issue will be addressed.

Several photos show the under-body and we can see the rear suspension parts are made of aluminum; and we can also see the limited-slip rear differential.

Production 2015 Lexus RC-F Performance Numbers Start to Emerge

Today, Motor Trend released its road test numbers of the production version 2015 RC-F (the one previously published by MT is the test of a pre-production prototype). Key performance results are:

– 0-60 mph: 4.3s
– 1/4 miles: 12.7s @ 112.2mph

The result is slightly worse than its German competitors such as the BMW M4, Audi RS5 (the new Mercedes-Benz W205 C-coupe AMG has not arrived yet). The reason is because the heavier weight of the RC-F, which exceeds 4,000 lbs.

Compared to the German luxury brands, what Lexus currently lacks behind is the use of high-strength light-weight advanced material in the car body construction...

Today Lexus finally gave out the numbers we have been expecting for several months. Below is spec highlights of the 2015 RC-F:

– 2UR-GSE engine output: 467hp, 389 lb-ft of torque@4,800 – 5,600rpm; 7,300rpm red line
– 8-speed automatic transmission
– 0-60 time: 4.4 seconds
– Fuel economy: 16/25/19 mpg (city/hwy/combine)
– Torsional rigidity 50% stiffer than the GS
– Base MSRP: $63,325 (including $925 S/H)
