Recently, some other automobile medias claim that, they have heard from their “source” that the upcoming Grand Cherokee SRT Hellcat is able to reach a top speed of 200mph and run the 0-60 mph within 3 seconds (for example, this report).

2016 Chrysler 300 SRT Will Not Be Sold in the US

In the past few days, spyshots have emerged from internet showing Chrysler was road-testing a 2016 model year 300 SRT mule, which suggests FCA is indeed building the 2016 300 SRT.

However, yesterday officials from Chrysler said although such car does exist, the auto maker has no plan to sell it within the US market.

The last 300 SRT sold in US is the 2014 model year, with the 6.4L HEMI V8 outputs 470hp and 470 lb-ft of torque. For the non-US-bound 2016 300 SRT, the same V8 engine will get a slight power bump to be inline with its cousin – the Dodge Charger SRT 392, which has 485hp and 475 lb-ft of torque.

According to our Chrysler insider, the company’s engineering team is working revising the 6.2L supercharged V8 engine, to make it suitable to sit inside the Grand Cherokee’s engine compartment. The project progress suggests an official debut in mid or late-2016 as the 2017 model.

Because FCA wants to use the nameplate of “SRT” solely for the Dodge brand, the future SRT/SRT Hellcat version of the Jeep Grand Cherokee may bear a new name called “Grand Cherokee Trackhawk”.
