BMW’s New Family Member:

The new member with the 3-cylinder engine in the 2-series family will be named “218i”. The 1.5L three-banger will produce 134hp and 162 lb-ft of torque. BMW claimed the 218i can hit 100 kmh in 8.8 seconds (6-speed manual) or 8.9 seconds (8-speed auto). It is pretty slow for a BMW, you can probably beat it using a Corolla or Civic. But the small 218i can reach a respectable top speed of 132 mph.

It is also rumored that Lexus is going to design the next-generation of the RX SUV to be a 3-row-seater. In fact, during our interview with Mr. Yasuo Kajino, Group Manager of the Lexus Design Division, Mr. Kajino mentioned to me that the LF-C2 concept does not indicate only one production model, in fact it reflects the possibility of several new model design styles. Now that’s exciting news!

Report: No AWD Version Plan for the BMW M3, M4 & M5

During the 2014 LA auto show last week, we have a chance to talk to Mr. Alexander Bilgeri, VP of Corporate Communications of BMW USA.

According to Mr. Bilgeri, there will not be any AWD variants for the current M3 sedan and M4 coupe/convertible. When being asked about the next-generation of the M5 sedan, he also mentioned that BMW does not plan to make an AWD variant as well.

Mr. Bilgeri explained to me that, this decision is based on the fact that BMW upper management wants to keep the M car’s RWD tradition, and they want to keep the M3/M4/M5 go be a “pure sports car”.

While technically speaking, AWD setup can greatly enhance the acceleration and handling of a large-ho...

BMW M235i Renamed, Next-Gen 7-Series Will Get Diesel Model

BMW Will Roll Out the New Engine, July 2016

In our previous article we reported that BMW will make some changes to the 3/4-series. BMW will rename the 35i models to 40i, and also the 28i will become 30i.

This is not JUST a name change because the current N55 6-cylinder engine in the 35i models will be replaced by the newly-designed B58 engine.  The same for the N20 engines in the 28i trims: it will be replaced by the brand-new B48 4-cylinder engine as well. BMW is going to roll out this engine swap starting July 2016 and we can NOT wait.
