2017 Ford F150 Raptor with V6 Turbo Engine: Just Debuted (with Live Photos)

Ford is really showing off its latest technology at the Detroit auto show. Besides the new Ford GT and GT350R Mustang, take the 2017 Ford F150 Raptor (goes on sale fall 2016) as example, it debuts the world’s first 10-speed automatic transmission.

As shown in the below drawing in the US Patent #8834310 granted to Ford, the Ford 10R transmission has 6 under drive ratios, 1 direct drive ratio and 3 overdrive ratios. The 10 speed gears are implemented using 4 planetary gear sets, which is the same as the ZF 8HP and GM 8L series (but with only 8 speeds); the gear sets are controlled by 6 shift elements (2 brakes + 4 clutches).
