2015 Mitsubishi Outlander Sport Comes with Upgraded Engine

The Mitsubishi Outlander Sport is forgotten by many consumers in the compact CUV market. For example in 2014, Mitsubishi has sold 2,000 – 3,000 Outlander Sport in the US market, making the annual sales figure to be 31,054. Compared to the Honda CR-V, sold 335,019 units in 2014, the CR-V is more than 10 times popular than the Outlander Sport.

For the 2015 model year, Mitsubishi decided to introduce an important enhancement, by introducing the 2.4L MIVEC 4-cylinder engine, producing 168 hp. This is a 20hp jump compared to the 2014 model’s 2.0L engine.

The same 2.4L engine, code name 4B12, has been used on the brand’s larger Outlander SUV for some years. It application on the 2015 Outlander Sport has 2hp higher output than the one in the Outlander. The 4B12 engine has all current latest technologies such as aluminum construction, continuously variable valve timing on both intake and exhaust valves; however, it does not incorporate direct fuel injection. This engine also has one unique feature compared to other competitors in the market: its exhaust manifold is made of double-layer stainless steel.

The 2015 Outlander Sport will be offered in two trims: 2.4 ES and 2.4 GT. See the below press release for more details including the pricing.
